Scouts Recommend Biner

March 26, 2013

At the HERA Women’s Cancer Foundation, our support comes from so many corners and so many individuals.  Our base is generally made up of the climbing community and ovarian cancer survivors and their families, but we never know what to expect.  This time, the 5th West Vancouver BC Mountain Scout Group is helping HERA.  The Scouts (ages 11-14) will climb Kilimanjaro this summer and raise a HERA Banner on the summit.  How incredible is that!

In addition, the Scouts recommend the Petzl HERAbiner as a “must have” for rock climbing gear:  Gear Zone.  The Petzl HERAbiner is one of our post popular Partners in Action products.  For every HERAbiner sold, Petzl donates $1 to HERA.  Since 2007, the HERAbiner has raised close to $30,000:  how incredible is that!

The Vancouver Scouts plan to do a fair amount of mountaineering in the coming years including the Himalayas in 2015 and they will take the HERA flag with them on every summit.  Click here to learn more about the Vancouver Scouts.

Whether it’s a group of young Scouts challenging themselves while learning important life skills or a major international gear company making donations to our cause, the broad support for HERA is huge.  This varied outreach is a reminder of how widespread ovarian cancer is, how it affects so many people, and how urgently we need to find an early detection test and better forms of treatment.  Thank you, Vancouver Scouts, for turning your passion into action:  climb on!

The 5th West Vancouver Mountaineer Scouts are proud to help fight ovarian cancer in whatever small way we can. This terrible disease took the life of the mother of one of our Scouts in 2010 and we will carry HERA’s banner with pride wherever we go!
