Black Diamond Hosts Annual HERA Fundraiser for Ovarian Cancer Research

Denver, Colo. (July 28, 2011) – Registration is now available online for participants in the 10th Annual HERA Climb4LifeSM Utah weekend.  The popular climbing and hiking event raises funds for ovarian cancer research. Climbers and hikers of all abilities and ages are invited to participate in the event in Salt Lake City on September 15-18th.
Ten years ago, HERA founder Sean Patrick envisioned an event that would both educate and involve women in the fight against ovarian cancer, the disease that would one day take Patrick’s own life. She used the concept of rock climbing to mirror her battle with ovarian cancer through the idea that one must keep pushing and climbing to conquer the mountain. Climb4LifeSM engaged women in the sport while also educating them about the dangers of ovarian cancer.
“As we celebrate ten years of success, we hope to hit new highs in fundraising to support higher levels of scientific research to treat ovarian cancer,” said Jill Slansky, HERA’s Board President. Last year’s Climb4LifeSM Utah weekend raised more than $100,000 and this year HERA hopes to break that record.
Registration is open through September 15th for a fee of $75 for the entire weekend. Residents of Salt Lake City may register for a fee of $60 which includes one day of climbing or hiking. Women, men, and teens are encouraged to participate in the event.  Participants can register online at:
On Friday night Robert Kurman, M.D., Professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Oncology, and Pathology at Johns Hopkins University will discuss the latest research on ovarian cancer. Other activities throughout the weekend include yoga, sports massage, film festival, raffle, and a party on Saturday night to celebrate the event.
