Melody Vo Teaches Yoga at C4L CA

August 18, 2014

Melody VoWe have an incredible person teaching yoga at our Climb4Life CA, just one more fabulous component to the weekend!  Melody Vo is a certified instructor with a personal connection to ovarian cancer.  She grew up dancing, but gave it up when she became fully devoted to her studies while at UCLA. Unfortunately, a Mechanical Engineering degree didn’t give her much time to focus on taking care of herself. Muscle loss, neglected joint problems, and heavy coffee intake were just a few of the brutalities of college life. Upon entering into the real world, Melody realized she needed to make up for lost time and offset her 40-hour week desk job. She fell in love with yoga, and soon after discovered climbing! Climbing was an instant hit, but she found that too much climbing and not enough yoga would reawaken old injuries. Melody became a Yoga Alliance Certified instructor in 2013 to better take care of herself and share her love of yoga with others.  She continues to struggle with her Hobbit-like reach, but at least rarely has trouble getting a high foot.

Her connection to HERA

I’m so overjoyed to be part of HERA’s Climb4Life Event! It means a lot to me to be part of this event and to raise awareness about ovarian cancer. My mama, Minhlang Vo, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the Fall of 2006. At the time, I was only 17, and didn’t really understand what “Stage 4” meant. To me, my mother was invincible, and was sure to recover. But unfortunately life isn’t always like the movies, and my mama passed in the Spring of 2008. Looking back, I will always remember my mother for being a strong (albeit sometimes stubborn) woman. She was a fighter, stood up for what was right, and always took care of those she loved. As I am growing older, I’m so proud to find myself becoming more like her. Even though her fight in this world is over, it’s time for me to become a fighter too.
