HERA Tunes In

March 11, 2014

In 2013, HERA awarded a $1,000 community grant to Support Connections of Yorktown Heights, NY to fund a national toll-free teleconference entitled, “Tune In and Take Charge:  Don’t Face It Alone.”  As part of National Ovarian Cancer Awareness month, the teleconference provided participants with education about advances in the treatment of the disease and promoted the on-going support services of Support Connections.  Topics of the conference included advances in treatment options in the management of recurrent disease, the role & promise of clinical trials, the latest information on personalized medicine, and genetics & hereditary pertaining to ovarian cancer.  The speaker was Dr. Stephanie Blank, Associate Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the NYU School of Medicine.  Dr. Blank is board certified and holds a subspecialty certificate in Gynecologic Oncology with the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Since 2002, HERA has funded $48,100 in community grants to other ovarian cancer non-profit organizations around the country who are raising awareness about the disease in novel and unusual ways.  HERA’s community grants empower those undergoing treatment for ovarian cancer, as well as women who are healthy.

HERA proudly supports the work of Support Connections!  Great job!
