Early Detection Research

September 20, 2012

Longtime HERA supporters, Maggie Luck and Monique Spillman, were recently featured on the local news in Denver.  Reporter Kathy Walsh interviewed survivor and climber Maggie Luck about her diagnosis and treatments for ovarian cancer.  Also featured was Dr. Monique Spillman (CU School of Medicine), one of the first recipients of HERA’s Sean Patrick Multidisciplinary Collaborative Grant.  With HERA’s support, Dr. Spillman is working on research to develop an early detection test for ovarian cancer.

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month.  Know the symptoms and share them with all of the women in your life.  The Pap smear tests for cervical cancer only.  Raising awareness about ovarian cancer is key, and interviews like this one on CBS 4 help HERA spread the word.
