The Colorado Legislature recently passed a joint resolution recognizing the symptoms of ovarian cancer and the need to raise awareness of the disease.  On May 3, 2012, Senator Jean White , R-District 8, introduced Colorado Senate Joint Resolution 43 on the Senate floor with representatives from the HERA Women’s Cancer Foundation and the Colorado Ovarian Cancer Alliance (COCA) in attendance.  The resolution spells out the grim statistics of ovarian cancer and encourages women and medical personnel to learn the symptoms and risk factors.  The resolution goes on to promote the importance of research and funding of an accurate early screening test, and it recognizes the HERA Women’s Cancer Foundation, COCA, the Cheryl Shackelford Foundation, and the Sue DiNapoli Foundation for their work towards these efforts.

Thank you, Senator White, for bringing ovarian cancer to the forefront of the public discussion.  It is crucial to raise awareness about the disease, and the HERA Women’s Cancer Foundation is honored to be part of this important process.

HERA is part of the Ovarian Cancer Task Force in Colorado, partnering with COCA, the Cheryl Shackelford Foundation, and the Sue DiNapoli Foundation.  The OCTF will present the Ovarian Cancer Summit on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at DU.  Stay tuned for more details.
