June 21, 2012

HERA Climb4Life Colorado is right around the corner!  Join us June 22-23 for a terrific weekend of climbing and hiking and fun.  To learn more or to register, click here:  www.herafoundation.org/c4l-colorado-2012/.

Whether you’re a beginner or a more seasoned climber or hiker, Climb4Life is for you.  Don’t miss this opportunity to spend a glorious day among the beautiful crags of Boulder and meet other people like you who are committed to raising awareness about the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer.  HERA welcomes the following pro climbers who’ll be on hand to “show us the ropes”:

Tommy Caldwell spends season after season banging his head against the granite of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park, free climbing the hardest lines on the wall. When not on El Cap or at home in Estes Park Tommy can be found climbing rock all around the world.  Favorites: Bouldering in South Africa, big alpine walls in Patagonia, Argentina, limestone cliffs in Europe and desert cracks in Indian Creek, Utah.  Tommy is sponsored by Black Diamond.

Herman Feissner is water resources engineer and close to fulfilling the degree requirements for Colorado State University’s MSBA Financial Risk Management Program. He has been climbing for the past twenty-four years, mostly in Colorado, Texas, California, the Southeast, France, and Switzerland.  Herman spends the majority of his time bouldering and sport climbing and is a La Sportiva athlete.

Olivia Hsu is a Yoga teacher and Sterling Rope climbing athlete. When she is not climbing you can find her teaching yoga in Boulder and around the world.  She has been climbing for the last 15 years all over the world — trad climbing, sport climbing, and bouldering in exotic locations such as Europe, Slovenia Thailand, China, Australia and New Zealand.

Cory Richards started climbing at the age of five and was the first American to climb an 8,000 meter peak in winter at 29.  He has an insatiable pursuit and passion for exposing the story and richness of the human element, and has carved a niche as one of the leading adventure and expedition photographers in the world. Cory is a climber for The North Face athlete team.

Matt Samet is a freelance writer and editor in Boulder. The former editor of Climbing Magazine, he is also the author of the Climbing Dictionary (Mountaineers Books, 2011) and the upcoming memoir Death Grip (St. Martin’s Press, 2013). Visit climbingterms.com to learn more about the Climbing Dictionary and to submit new terms. Matt has been climbing for the past twenty-five years, mostly in the American Southwest and is a La Sportiva athlete.  He’ll be signing copies of his book during the Climb4Life weekend.

Heidi Wirtz has a love for adventure and exploration that has been the driving force behind her climbing accomplishments. She enjoys all types of climbing, finding herself high on giant rock walls and frozen waterfalls throughout the world.  While continually raising the bar for her personal performance and for women’s climbing in general, Heidi envisions a broader view for her role in the sport in the years ahead, hoping to do more work with people in need around the world and create opportunities to “give back, help and inspire.”  Heidi is a climber on The North Face athlete team.

Climb4Life are HERA’s signature fundraising events.  88% of the funds raised provide for HERA’s programs such as the scientific research grants and the community grants.  Join us June 22-23.  You’ll be glad you did.
